Position: Director of Education

Expected commitment will be 24 to 40 hours per week

Compensation: $26-30 per hour based upon experience. 

The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation is seeking a Director of Education to join our energetic and creative team and manage all aspects of the Museum’s educational programming including curriculum development, K-12 on- and off-site programs, visitor tours, lecture series, maker space utilization, exhibit interpretation, and collaborations with other institutions in the development and administration of educational programming and more.

This is a challenging position that comes with a lot of autonomy and opportunity for experimentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

  • Developing and leading tours, indoors and out, for school groups, private groups, and the public

  • Developing and delivering educational programs for school and camp groups and adult learners of all ages

  • Develop and maintain educational materials including printed and digital media for programs, exhibits, and interactives

  • Periodically representing the Museum at community events

  • Vetting, training, and supervising interns and volunteers who assist with tours and programs

  • Program evaluation

  • Assisting with grant writing

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: 

  • Master’s Degree, preferably in Museum Studies and/or Education

  • Experience developing hands-on educational STE(A)M learning programs and activities

  • Fluency in English

  • Solid writing and public speaking skills

  • Strong social skills with both adults and children of all ages

  • The ability to engage and manage small groups in informal settings

  • Strong computer skills

  • Eligibility to work in the United States

  • Passing CORI and SORI background checks

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Working most Saturdays and some evenings

  • Working well both independently and as part of a tea

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE:

  • Experience as a Tour Guide and/or Museum Educator.

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.

  • Knowledge, background, or degree in American History, Environmental Science, Engineering

  • Experience conducting and/or directing research on historical, scientific, technological, and environmental subjects

  • Experience with basic maker space technologies including 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, and basic CAD design.

  • Competency in at least one other language than English – Spanish, Mandarin, Portuguese, and/or French preferred
