What IS Planned Giving?

Planned giving is the donation of planned or legacy gifts to an institution, most commonly through a will or trust, with the intention they be conveyed at some point in the future.

Why Consider Planned Giving?

Planned giving doesn’t mean complex. It often requires very little of a donor in the present but can mean so much to an institution like the Museum in the future. Are you updating your will or estate plan due to the birth of a child or grandchild or some other life change? It’s simple to include the Museum as a beneficiary, too. Or perhaps consider including us as a named beneficiary in a life insurance policy or a retirement account. These are just a few of the ways your generosity and vision can help strengthen and shape the future of the Charles River Museum.

And it be as flexible as you please. Should circumstances change, you can always restructure any planned or legacy gift as you see fit. Planned giving is a great way to help the Museum without worry or regret.

What is the “1813 Society?”

“1813” was the year that Francis Cabot Lowell founded the Boston Manufacturing Company, the pioneering textile mill operating on the Charles River Museum’s current site. Despite his passing in 1817, Lowell’s genius in structuring his business allowed the company he founded to fulfill its amazing potential and cement his legacy, staking out vital new industrial territory in Lowell, Lawrence, Manchester, and beyond.

To become a member of the “1813 Society,” simply let the Museum know you have included the Museum in your planned giving.  The size and method of your gift is your business to keep to yourself if you choose. And should you so desire, your membership in the Society can be anonymous. We simply want the opportunity to thank you and acknowledge your thoughtfulness and generosity today!

And we’re pretty sure that your act will inspire others to make similar choices.

Like Lowell and the BMC, your legacy can help sustain the Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation, ensuring future generations learn and benefit from its exhibits, programs, and mission.
