Boiler House Jazz: Maria Finkelmeier/Tim Hall Duo

Performance begins at 7:30 with doors opening 30 minutes prior

Cincinnati native Maria Finkelmeier has been called a "one-woman" dynamo" by the Boston Globe. She is a percussionist, composer, educator, and arts entrepreneur based in Boston. She founded and directs Kadence Arts, a non-profit devoted to incubating artistic projects, curating performances and engaging local communities through music making. A nuanced interpreter and creator of new music, Maria is also a co-founder of the artist collective Massary Studios and has been commissioned to create works for several different projects. She also finds time to tour with the Swedish-American band, Quartet Kalos who re-work traditional folk music with unique arrangements and instrumentation as well as perform original compositions and commissioned works. She also got lots of attention for a project she did with Illumininus for HubWeek in 2015, where she turned Fenway Park's Green Monster into an instrument and projection canvas combining music performance with triggered animation.

Detroit born Tim Hall is an educator, saxophonist, writer, and producer who has performed all around the country. He began playing music at the age of 10, and found poetry in college as a way to share his thoughts on paper. Tim Hall draws inspiration from his lived experiences, charting the nuances of blackness, masculinity, and the beauties of life. He has performed in spaces all around the Midwest and Greater Boston areas, and has opened for artists such as Neiel Israel, Regie Gibson, the Asia Project of BET’s Def Poetry Jam, and soul singer Lalah Hathaway.
