Introduction to Steampunk - an Art & Design Workshop
We have two special sessions of this workshop upcoming. The first, on Monday, April 18th, is in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary Cambridge Science Festival. The second session, on Sunday, May 1st, is in conjunction with ArtWeek Boston!
Both sessions run from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Steampunk the Industrial Revolution! Join Bruce Rosenbaum, Steampunk designer extraordinaire and Founder of ModVic, in bringing together the domains of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, and History to create new inventions from old machines. After learning about Steampunk artifacts and design principles, participants will explore the rich histories of the items surrounding them in the iconic Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation.
Rudy Ruggles, of FutureFixers, and local artists will then help participants use their knowledge, imagination, and the inspirational items surrounding them to draw up plans for a Steampunk-inspired contraption reflecting the group's unique take on the American Industrial Revolution. The event includes a look at Waltham sculptor Todd Cahill's creations from his nearby Steamachine Workshop, where he uses 100-year-old machinery to fabricate mechanical marvels.
This workshop is recommended for adults and youth aged 14+ and can only accommodate up to 15 participants (minimum of 5 needed), so be sure to register early. Participants should plan to attend for the duration of the session.
