This is a live, staged performance of the play, directed by Anna T. Stenberg.
Set against the backdrop of Victorian England’s upper class, Oscar Wilde’s biting comedy of social errors, mistaken identity, and romantic blunders follows Algernon Moncreiff and Jack Worthing as they look to inject some excitement into their lives. By bending the truth and caring for imaginary invalids, these two young gents hope to win the hearts of their beloved Gwendolyn and Cecily.
Despite being over 120 years old The Importance of Being Earnest is still as funny and as relevant as when it was first written and performed. Oscar Wilde’s mastery of wit and social commentary proves that although fashion and popular culture have changed throughout the years people remain the same. Through his characters and their pratfalls Wilde shows the universal experience (and struggle) of navigating romance and social faux-pas.
